The Neighborhood Relations Committee typically meets on the first Tuesday of every month. All D10 Como Park meetings are open to the public and have space for community members to bring topics for discussion.

III. NRC NEW BUSINESS 

1) Owl Mascot graphic, how do we want to finalize

2)  Halloween Decoration Competition,

  • Open registration to enter ones home by Oct. 17th
  • Map of all participating houses will become available by the 22nd
  • Voting is open from the 22nd -28th, and the winner will be announced in the friday newsletter Oct. 29th 
  • Top 3 houses will be recognized

3)  Halloween Costume Parade.

lV. D10 philanthropy

1) Blood Drives

  • Work with the Red Cross to locate a location within D10 to host a recurring blood donation drive

2) Thanksgiving

  • Host a financial fundraiser to raise funds to help cover meals for people in D-10.
  • Team up with the Block Nurse Program to deliver prepared meals to Elderly neighbors in need
  • Team up with other organizations to do a turkey giveaway for families in need

V. Racial Equity initiatives

1) Updates from the anti-racism working group

2) Public Art Project

  • Currently a planning grant is being written
  • Theme- Recognizing and calling out Como’s past of racial covenants, red lining: and how these exclusionary practices have impacted and shaped our neighborhood to be and stay predominately white and middle class single family homes. 
  • Goals-  Change the name of the Frankson Garden, community engagement, create a historical marker that explains who Frankson was, how the housing development with racial covenants has impacted our community and excluded people of color.  Create a meditative sitting area for community members to learn, reflect and connect.
