District 10 Como Community Council

D10 Como Park Annual Ice Cream Social - July 8, 5:30-8pm

Every year, the D10 Neighborhood Relations Committee plans our Ice Cream Social, typically featuring free ice cream, live music, meet-and-greets with neighborhood organizations, and activities for children and families.

Thanks so much to our sponsors for making this event possible! Bethel Lutheran Church, Thrivent, Hmong College Prep Academy, Como Park Language and Arts, and The North Suburban Kiwanis Club!!

The event is at the Historic Streetcar Station in Como Park, 1224 Lexington Pkwy N. Because parking is limited, we encourage community members to walk, bike, roll, carpool, or take public transportation. Bring your neighbors!

Bands

Dale Dahlquist & Kristen Rodriguez play a foot-tappin’ mix of western swing, Chicago blues, Big Band jazz, bluegrass, vintage folk and rock, and a wee bit of Irish. Their vocal duets cover timeless classics by renowned artists such as Linda Ronstadt, Little Walter, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Bob Wills, Simon & Garfunkel, Neil Young, Buddy Holly, Bonnie Raitt & Emmylou Harris.

A veteran Minnesota guitarist, Dale has appeared on many radio and TV shows and taught at area music schools for over 30 years. Blending with Kristen’s versatile and dynamic voice, they create a rich palette of sounds.

Snappy arrangements and humor-you-can-use – a smorgasbord of fun!

The Tender Years is a musical project created from over 30 years of friendship and individual/collective service in the Twin Cities music scene (Hero, Accident Clearinghouse, The Autumn Leaves.)

Like a soft vintage cardigan, they proudly and comfortably wear their influences on their sleeve. Strewn throughout their brand of ramshackle stumble-pop, you’ll hear traces of IRS-era R.E.M., Yo La Tengo, and Guided By Voices to name a few. Their new EP, After The Batteries Die, was recorded under the guidance of veteran engineer Tom Herbers (Grant Hart, Low, Cactus Blossoms) and represents a band emerging from a pandemic-induced hibernation with a confident urgency.

This event is still being planned. If you’re interested in helping plan or volunteering at this event you can fill out our volunteer interest form, come to our Neighborhood Relations Committee meetings (1st Tuesdays), or reach out to organizer@district10comopark.org.
