Know Your Como: Six Decades Strong

JO Thompson, Inc. has been in the Como Park flooring business for almost 60 years. The family first owned property on Robert St in the 1950s, then on University and Snelling in the 60s. In 1965, Jim Thompson, Sr., bought what is now Nelson’s Cheese Shop. Shortly thereafter, he purchased the property that is J.O Thompson Inc. flooring business, currently owned and managed by his son, Jim. Having worked in the shop at a very young age, Jim says that a multitude of businesses have come and gone over the years.

November 21, 2023 Community Meeting – 3rd Tuesdays

The first Wednesday of every month Community Meeting, beginning at 7pm, typically hosts our Land Use and Board/Organizational topics for discussion and planning, as well as guest presentations related to those issues. Occasionally time sensitive Environment and Neighborhood Relations committee items are included on the agenda as well.

Over the past year District 10 Como Community Council has had the privilege of working with many individual and group volunteers to plan and put on the major community events that are hosted each year. We have been hosting a major event in each of the four subdistricts so that we can encourage neighbors from the whole community to engage with each other and community partners that have vested interest in the district.

November 1, 2023 Community Meeting – 1st Wednesdays

The first Wednesday of every month Community Meeting, beginning at 7pm, typically hosts our Environment and Neighborhood Relations committee topics for discussion and planning, as well as guest presentations related to those issues. Occasionally time sensitive Land Use and Board/Organizational items are included on the agenda as well.

These 7pm meetings are open to the public and are offered hybrid in-person at the Como Streetcar Station (1224 Lexington Parkway) as well as on zoom. Agendas are posted on our website homepage as well as shared in our Weekly Newsletter the Friday prior to the meeting.

Recorded Presentations: Know Your Rights – 10/17/2023

At the October 17, 2023 D10 Como Community Meeting we welcomed Sierra Cumberland, Coordinator, Police Civilian Internal Affairs Review Commission (PCIARC), St. Paul Department of Human Rights and Equal Economic Opportunity (HREEO) and Joshua Clapp, Labor Standards Investigator, HREEO to share about St. Paul human rights resources.

The D10 Board typically meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 7:15pm, starting in November our meetings will begin at 7pm. All D10 Como Park meetings are open to the public and have space for community members to bring topics for discussion. This meeting will take place hybrid at the Como Streetcar Station (1224 Lexington Pkwy) and also via Zoom.
