District 10 Como Community Council

Environment Committee

Monthly Meetings

Environment Committee (1st Wednesdays at 7pm)

The first Wednesday of every month typically hosts our Environment and Neighborhood Relations committee topics for discussion and planning, as well as guest presentations related to those issues. Occasionally time sensitive Land Use and Board/Organizational items are included on the agenda as well.

The Environment committee oversees environmental protections and sustainability initiatives in the community, especially those affecting Como Lake. Members helped set up the Capitol Region Watershed District, the Como Woodland Outdoor Classroom, and the food scraps recycling site on Beulah Ln. It frequently sponsors educational opportunities on topics such as composting, pollinator habitat, and eco-friendly yard care.

These meetings are open to the public and are offered hybrid in-person at the Como Streetcar Station (1224 Lexington Parkway) as well as on zoom. Agendas are posted on our website homepage as well as shared in our Weekly Newsletter the Friday prior to the meeting.

Committee Purpose

The Environment Committee works to maintain, protect, and improve the environment of the District 10. This work has included instigating the creation of the Capitol Region Watershed District, initially to improve the water quality of Lake Como, assisting the St. Paul Parks and recreation department in Como Park and Como Lake Cleanup events, including removing buckthorn within Como Park and creation and oversight of the Como Woodland Outdoor Classroom. The committee acts as a liaison between the community, District 10, government and regulatory agencies, and private businesses to improve the environment.
