At the June 7th, 2023 D10 Environment Committee, we heard from Mariah Quick – a Ramsey County Heath Educator – about what happens to organic compost. She explains where it goes, the environmental impact of keeping food out of a landfill and what we can do to promote composting.
In January, we accepted nominations for the 2021 Como Neighborhood Honor Roll, our board members voted to select three honorees among the nominations, and the winners were honored at this week’s board meeting.
Know someone who makes the Como Park area a better place to live, work, or play? Nominate them for the District 10 Neighborhood Honor Roll. The Honor Roll pays tribute to everyday people who make a sustained and lasting impact in our neighborhood or Saint Paul as a whole.
The Environment Committee typically meets on the second Tuesday of every month. All D10 Como Park meetings are open to the public and have space for community members to bring topics for discussion.
Como Community Council is teaming up with the Como Active Citizen Network and Capitol Region Watershed District on this year’s Como Curb Clean-up.
When it rains, leaves on streets release nutrients into the water that flows into storm drains and the lake. There it becomes food for invasive algae.
Our current volunteer gardeners that have been maintaining the rain gardens on Van Slyke and Churchill are looking for some interested neighbors to help with planting and maintenance of this beautiful space. This is a great opportunity to help support your community and meet neighbors.

The new 1115 Beulah Ln. Organics Recycling site enclosure was completed this week. Waste Management delivered the new dumpsters Friday, August 6.
The District 10 Environment Committee in partnership with St. Paul Parks & Rec invites individuals or groups (families, schools, churches, clubs and others) to volunteer and give back and to help keep our regional treasure welcoming for everyone.
