The Neighborhood Relations Committee typically meets on the first Tuesday of every month, because of the election the November meeting will be on Thursday, November 4 , instead. All D10 Como Park meetings are open to the public and have space for community members to bring topics for discussion.
Last year in May, in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis Police, the District 10 Como Community Council focused on supporting community action to address immediate needs: as neighbors, we brought food, helped in cleanup efforts across Saint Paul and Minneapolis, and cared for one another as we mourned.
At least 350 homes in Como contain racially restrictive covenants, new research by the University of Minnesota’s Mapping Prejudice project shows. The covenants created impenetrable barriers; for decades, they meant only white people could own those homes or live in those parts of the neighborhood.

Her conversation with District 10’s Anti-Racism Work Group covers the funding, policy, and political hurdles to reducing homelessness, creating more housing for a wider range of people, and preserving affordable housing; some of the innovative affordable housing options under consideration (and the challenges to making them happen); what’s necessary to change the hearts and minds of residents in communities such as Como to accept and advocate for a larger range of housing options; and the complexities that affect decisions by unhoused residents and the professionals trying to find appropriate indoor homes for them.
