Juan José Miranda Ruiz, Subdistrict 4

Born and raised in the mountains of Jayuya, Puerto Rico, I joined the Army at age 17 and was deployed to Iraq at 19 under the 35th Signal Batallion. I am a US veteran. I majored in History at the University of Puerto Rico, currently writing my thesis on the History of the Greeks and their present economic crisis. Throughout my life, I have dedicated myself to grassroots movements, political activism and journalism. In my years as a graduate student, I have participated in bodies of student governance and have worked as a teaching assistant. I also had the privilege of working as an Instructor in a special program spearheaded by the university, where we offered college courses to maximum-security inmates.

My wife and I moved to Minnesota after Hurricane Maria struck the island in 2017. After much sacrifice and hard work, we landed in D10 when we became homeowners in 2019. For over a year now, I have been working at the Department of Veteran Affairs.
