Possible new projects for winter

Discussion centered on developing a series of public seminars for spring 2012:

  1. Como Park history (February), perhaps presented by local resident and historian Roger Bergerson.
  2. Attracting butterflies and moths to your garden (March), by horticulturalist and wildlife photographer Heather Holm
  3. Landscaping tips (April), by landscape architect Erik Olsen

Val will contact the potential speakers.  Possible venues and effective publicity were discussed.  The latter two lectures might encourage increased participation in public garden maintenance and in the annual District 10 garden tour.

Como Woodland Outdoor Classroom (CWOC)

CWOC liaison Susan Jane Cheney reported that a sedge meadow planting on Saturday, 9/17 and recent interpretive tours of the CWOC site were well attended.  A planting session with students from St. Kate’s may take place in mid-October.  For more information about the CWOC, check their website: www.comowoodland.org.

New business

  1. A suggestion was made to utilize the district website, newsletter and e-blasts as well as the Como Pavilion information kiosk to interest the public in becoming actively involved in the committee.
  2. The need for more information kiosks in District 10 – in the Midway, Energy Park, and North Dale Recreation Center areas – was discussed.

The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
