I.               Reviewed and Approved Last Month’s NSC Minutes:

II.              Chair Report:

Bicycle Tour: The committee felt weather was the primary factor contributing to the low attendance of the event (7 participants).  Agreed to consider moving bike tour away from Staycation events and holding the bicycle tour in September.  The committee also agreed to include a rain date.

Staycation: Agreed to limit District 10’s involvement to art crawl and garden tour.

III.            Staff Report :

June 21 Police Meeting: Jessie reported that statistics indicated that the crime rate was down 2.4 % throughout the Western District.  The police officials indicated there has been an increase in individuals “alley surfing”/ looking for unlocked cars in garages across the Western District.  Commanders reiterated the importance of locking garages and looking for suspicious activity.  Commanders reported that people can apply for their permits for National Night Out until 7/26.

Block Club Information: No new reports have been received since the Block Club Leader meeting in June 2011.  Jessie has developed a list of activities to follow up on prior to the next Block Club meeting.  No date has been set for the next Block Club meeting.  Dolores asked whether Block Club leaders wanted speakers at meetings.  Jessie indicated that she feels the focus for future block club leader meetings will be on addressing neighborhood issues raised by the block club leaders.

IV.            Items for Discussion:

Staycation Thank Yous:  Jessie will follow up on thank you notes for Sibley Depot, Twin Cities Bicycling Club and Smart Trips.  Notes for donations and sponsors have been written and need to be signed.

Left over Bike Tour Prizes: Jessie indicated she might use some of the prizes for NNO and others might be left for future events.  All sponsors are OK with District 10 using the donations in the future.

NNO: Pam McCreary has sent the list of City of St. Paul NNO events; however, Jessie has not counted how many parties will be in District 10.  Jessie is planning to donate John’s Pizza certificates for the NNO parties.

S.A.L.T. program with SPPD (Senior and Law Enforcement Together): The Police Department and Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Aging are recruiting volunteers over age 50 to address crime victimization, awareness and preventions efforts with the goal of making our neighborhoods safer.  Jessie talked about advertising this volunteer opportunity through the e-blast.  Dolores also talked about arranging a possible meeting with seniors and the police department to talk about this program.

Speakers and agenda items for future meetings: Talked about options for a presentation on Internet Safety.

Concern reported to District 10 about fire pits: Jessie reported she will send regulations regarding burning rules to the e-mailer.
