Members Present: Betsy Wehrwein, Laurie Erickson, Ted Blank
Others Present: Panod Klongtruatroke
Staff Present: Jessie Bronk

The meeting was called to order at 7pm and minutes from the February 2012 meeting were approved.

Jessie Bronk provided an update on the 11th Annual Como Park Garage Sale, which will take place on Saturday May 19th. The deadline for registration is Friday, April 27th. Promotional activities will include advertisements in newspapers, press releases, the Parks & Rec Department Signacade, and flyers distributed through local businesses. Based on previous years, 40-50 sales are expected on the 19th. A free charity pick of unsold items will be provided by the Lupus Foundation to interested sellers on Monday May 20th.

The committee requested that a box be added to the garage sale registration form to allow interested parties to request more information on District 10 volunteer opportunities.

Jessie and Laurie provided an update on the Staycation and District 10’s role in promoting it. District 10 will be responsible for providing and distributing posters to various neighborhood locations, a story in the July D10 newsletter, and will staff a D10 table at the art tent on the Saturday of the event to promote District 10’s activities and seek volunteers. Ted will also investigate the feasibility of producing a printed event guide with paid sponsorship opportunities. The committee agreed on the importance of identifying volunteer activities across District 10’s committees. Betsy will contact other committee chairs and compile a list of opportunities to promote at the Staycation and elsewhere.

The committee is finalizing its work plan for 2012-2013. Members ranked proposed initiatives in priority order as follows:
• Sustain and improve District 10 Block Club Program
• Fully assess feasibility and structure of a Como Park Business Alliance
• Conduct an ongoing resident need assessment
• Produce a District 10 Housing Forum in Fall, 2012
• Recruit new committee members
• Support District 10 Staycation involvement

The City of St. Paul will host a National Night Out Kickoff Picnic on Wednesday June 6 from 6:00pm – 7:30pm at the Phalen Park Picnic Pavilion. Block Club Leaders and others interested in hosting a National Night Out Event on Tuesday August 7th should attend this event to learn more about permits to close streets, registration forms, and how to request a Police/Fire Department presence at your event.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:45pm.

Minutes are not official until approved at next committee meeting.
