Mike Ireland, Subdistrict 3

When I was elected to the District Council one year ago to fill a mid-term vacancy, I shared that my motivation was rooted in giving back to a community that had given so much to me throughout life. Growing up in Roseville and living within a few miles of this neighborhood most of my life, the Como area has had a profound impact upon my life. While I knew this was a debt I could never repay, it was important I begin to make a grateful gesture by getting involved.
I graduated from the University of Minnesota, and my professional career was primarily in managing bank operations and project management. In 2008, I suffered a spinal cord injury that altered my vocational pursuits, resulting in a personal journey leading to seminary school that I graduated from last summer. I have also had the opportunity to serve on several other nonprofit boards in the capacities of board chair, vice chair, treasurer, and committee and task force chairs.
Reflecting on the past year, my motivation to serve remains the same: to give back to a community that has given so much to me. Yet the source of that motivation has shifted from being grateful for past experiences within the Como community to now being grounded in the present. Today, my motivation to serve is inspired by my interactions with community members and various connections throughout the community who I witness consistently joining together to contribute in making a positive difference. With your support, I hope to continue to contribute by serving on the District 10 Council and on our Environmental Committee.
