Melissa Liu, At-Large

My husband, Frank, and I have been residents of Como Park since the spring of 2014. We moved to Minnesota in 2013 for Frank to serve as the full-time pastor of Mission Presbyterian Church on Como Avenue and are deeply committed to the neighborhood. I had a career in the consumer banking industry from 1999-2008, worked for the State of California for 5 years, interned with the Asia Society of Southern California, volunteered with the Special Olympics and various faith-based organizations. My experience spans corporate America, state service, and non-profits.

In 2015, I joined with five other neighbors to co-found the Saint Paul Community Awareness Network, a grass-roots organization of neighbors from the North End and Como that promotes awareness of crime prevention and neighborhood connectedness. I’m also very active in my street’s block club (which includes a book club, knitting club, and beer club) and I’ve helped to organize a multi-block party during the summer.

My favorite part of our community is her great diversity. I have a liberal arts degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on international business. I’ve studied abroad in Mexico, southern France, China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. I’ve traveled to 4 continents and love languages, cultural experiences and trying new foods. I am amazed that all of these things I love I get to experience in my own neighborhood on a regular basis! I truly feel that the world has met in the Twin Cities and lives in Como Park.

I want to contribute my skills and experience in community relations and administration to help build a community in Como where we thrive as individuals, as families, and as a neighborhood.
