Program:

Officer Brodt provided several useful pieces of information and tips

1.              60% of crimes are unforced entry

2.              Provide proper lighting around the home

3.              Trim bushes around the house to prevent burglars from using them as cover to break in.

4.              Make sure that you have house numbers in your alley so that the police can respond quickly even if coming through the alley.

5.              Record the make, model, serial number and cost of high end items and take picture of other unique items to aid in claiming the property.

6.              Call in all suspicious persons; if calling from a cell phone immediately tell them what city you are calling from since all cell calls are routed to the State Patrol.

New Business

·      Briefly discussed possible future speakers; including child protection topic in light of recent nearby abduction attempts.

Staff Report: 

1.     Block Clubs:  Reported on street painting proposal and art grant.

2.     Crime Reports & Western:

·      Current:  No events of note reported – some discussion from attendees regarding child abduction attempts in Falcon Heights

·      Western Mtg:   Attending staff did not attend.

3.     Other Crime and Safety Related Activities

·      Requested list of available print materials for public distribution was not completed due to staff changes.  Staff has advised that there is minimal material and of little value.

·      Advised by staff that temporary staff member will be assigned during the next few months.

·      Discussed ongoing corner in newsletter with Safety information.

2.     Apartment Outreach (Deloris)

·      Deloris will be working with intern to begin communicating with apartments on safety issues.

3.     Educational Materials Library (Staff/Ken)

·      Garage Sale flyer provided to staff

·      Discussed protocol for getting information to neighbors after break in with tips to address concerns. 

4.     National Night Out

Citywide kick off on June 3rd

New Business

·      Rec Center Event

o      Will investigate participating at event with safety “game” to raise awareness at rec center event.

o      Investigate co-host with District 6

·      Need packet of information to be provided to block clubs hosting parties – freebies for kids, crime prevention tips, information on non-emergency phone numbers, info on who to contact for street closures and to request police stops

·      Looking into how to work with apts to host events.
